(FAQ) Frequently Asked Questions

What is beef tallow?

Beef tallow is rendered beef fat — a natural, nutrient-rich fat that’s been used for centuries in skincare. It’s especially high in vitamins A, D, E, and K, and closely mimics the oils our own skin produces.

Is it sustainable?

Absolutely. We source our tallow from 100% grass-fed, ethically raised cows, using what would otherwise be a discarded part of the animal. It’s true nose-to-tail care — good for your body, and better for the planet.

Is your tallow organic?

While our products aren’t USDA certified organic (yet), we source from farms that follow organic and regenerative practices. Our tallow comes from 100% grass-fed, pasture-raised cattle with no hormones or antibiotics.

Can vegans use tallow?

Tallow is an animal-derived ingredient, so it’s not vegan. But it’s a more sustainable and minimal ingredient than many synthetic, petroleum-based alternatives. We understand it’s not for everyone — and that’s okay.

Why would I put beef fat on my skin?

Because your skin loves it.
Tallow is:

  • Highly absorbable

  • Deeply moisturizing

  • Rich in fat-soluble vitamins

  • Non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores)

It nourishes and protects without harsh chemicals or synthetic ingredients. And no — it doesn’t smell like steak.

Is it greasy?

Not when it’s done right.
Our tallow is whipped and blended perfectly to create a smooth, non-greasy finish.

Does it smell like beef?

Nope. Our grass-fed tallow is rendered slowly and carefully to remove any odor. Some of our products may be lightly scented with essential oils — or you can opt for our Unscented Original.

Is beef tallow good for sensitive skin?

Yes!
Beef tallow is:

  • Gentle

  • Anti-inflammatory

  • Free of synthetic additives

It’s a favorite for people with eczema, psoriasis, dry skin, and even babies. Always patch test first, of course.

Isn’t tallow “pore-clogging”?

That’s a myth. Tallow’s fatty acid profile is nearly identical to human sebum — the oil your skin naturally produces. This makes it highly compatible and unlikely to clog pores, especially when paired with non-comedogenic oils.

How should I store my tallow?

Keep it in a cool, dry place.
Because it’s made with natural ingredients and no preservatives, heat can soften it. If that happens, just pop it in the fridge to reset the texture.
